D.P. Gladkochub is a specialist in geodynamics, regional geology, and petrology of magmatic and metamorphic rocks.

His research priority area involves identification and study of complexes – indicators of specific stages of the supercontinental cycle. D.P. Gladkochub is the first scientist who provided evidence for the occurrence of a one-billion-year Super Gap in the Precambrian history of the Earth, in its endogenous activity. This phenomenon is now actively being studied both in Russia and abroad. D.P. Gladkochub participated in two expeditions to Western Antarctica where he identified a succession of rifting processes in the area of Antarctic Peninsular.

It was renamed into the East-Siberian Geological Institute in 1957; since 1962, it had been known as the Institute of the Earth’s Crust SB AS USSR and obtained its current name in 1992.
